Texas Super Kings beat Seattle Orcas by six wickets to launch Major League Cricket 2026 in a high-scoring contest at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. Tasked with a challenging chase of 221, Texas wrapped up the match stunningly… scoring off the penultimate ball after Skip Faf du Plessis posted a superb century.
After batting first, Seattle Orcas scored 220 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs which seemed to be enough for them to clinch the victory. Tim Seifert and Shayan Jahangir put on a superb partnership to build the innings. Top-scoring was the unbeaten 104 from Seifert who reached three figures with an entertaining blend of big hitting and measured stroke play. Jahangir knock was tremendously boosted up for the team, contributing 78 runs and followed up well with the scoring rate.
Texas Super Kings were, however, unfazed by the mammoth target. Batting like he had in the past, du Plessis anchored their chase with one of the greatest knocks in tournament history. The seasoned opening batsman hit an unbeaten 113 off just 52 balls, marrying aggression with astute shot-making. He looked settled at the crease from the start of the chase, hitting boundaries regularly and keeping the required run rate under control.
The middle order also chipped in with important contributions at Texas, providing enough support for du Plessis to continue the scoring. It turned out to be a perfect innings for the Super Kings. On a batting-friendly surface, Seattle’s bowlers could not close up the flow of runs and what had looked a challenging target became within reach.
It showcased the batting depth of Texas Super Kings while also setting an early marker for the rest of the tournament. A century from Du Plessis sealed the match and the two points and earned him Player of the Match. His innings once again proved he is ready to play a significant role in the shortest format of the game.
The tournament opener did not disappoint fans hoping for an airy first flight, as the two teams combined to score 441 runs in the match over two innings and set the stage for a very memorable opening night of the 2026 Major League Cricket season.
